Dragon Age: Origins — Sacred Ashes Trailer

Another Monday, another bite-sized morsel of Dragon Age goodness. This week we get a *beautifully* rendered cut-scene showing a band of warriors (Grey Wardens, I’d wager) encountering a gaggle of Darkspawn in a frozen mountain pass. This is (obviously) just a canned scene and so won’t have any direct impact on the game, but it sure does set the mood. Once upon a time Blizzard was known for doing some of the best cut-scenes in the industry. Looks like Bioware is looking to challenge Blizzard in the cut-scene arena!

At the start of the video, the leader of the party mentions a tomb, and one of the others says something about freezing to death while searching for the bones of a mad-woman. I’m going to go out on a limb and guess that they’re searching for the tomb of Andraste The Prophet. She wrote the Chant of Light, from which the Chantry sprang (the Chantry being the major religion of Fereldran.

[My ramblings on the mythos of Dragon Age comes in part from reading the novels, in part from looking up things on the Dragon Age wiki, and a smidgen from press materials. Take everything I write with a grain of salt, as I’m no Dragon Age scholar!]

  1. I really like this one. I think they’ve really nailed down the look of the armour — love watching those plate wearing guys move.

I also like that although the women are showing a bit of skin, it doesn’t immediately leap out as fanservice. In fact, I like the female characters a lot 🙂

  2. Yeah, me too. That archer makes Legolas look like a noob! 🙂 I also love some of the moves like the guys crouching behind their shields to deflect shrapnel from the explosion.

  3. I am torn as to what version of this one to buy. I want to go PC but playing on the 55 inch LCD home theater appeals a lot.
IS this one going to support 1080P and 5.1 sound on the 360 and PS3?

  4. @Grid – I don’t know for sure but I’d be surprised if it was 1080P; I’ve only seen a handful of games that go above 720P natively and mostly they’re casual titles that don’t have a lot of polygons to render. 5.1 surround is more likely but again, I haven’t seen or heard anything concrete there.

  5. I’ve been putting off watching any clips or vids from Dragonage cause I wanna get it almost completely ‘new’. Experience it all without any notion of what it’s like. Except well, I fancied watching that clip and FUCK ME!

I’ve got an itching to watch ’em all now. Damn you Pete :p
