The Calm Before the Expansion

Gah! I hate the weekend before an MMO expansion releases!

In just a few short days I’ll be able to experience all kinds of new content and game system changes, so I get totally pumped to play the game (LOTRO in this case, and the expansion is Siege of Mirkwood). But suddenly the “old” non-expanded game seems a bit tattered and worn. If there’s some specific thing I want or need to finish before the expansion launches, I’m fine, but otherwise it just feels like killing time before the new shinies arrive.

Mind you, this is all in my head this time out. The old content won’t really feel tattered and worn once Mirkwood launches. And it isn’t like I’m at the level cap and ready to charge into the forest. Hardly. I haven’t even been to Moria!

But I did preview the expansion and already have some Skirmish-earned armor picked out and I just want to get working on earning it NOW. I’m ready to start my quest to enable Skirmishes.

I feel like a kid waiting for Santa to arrive!

  1. I am very excited, too. Got my 4th radiance gear part two hours ago, now I am focusing on doing some dungeon traits and exploring here and there for some deeds. 🙂

  2. If I wasn’t so caught up with trying to get Fallen Earth to work in the Philippines, I probably would have resubbed during the free period they offered a while back. Ah well. 🙁

  3. I have to write about this tomorrow but I really enjoyed the welcome back week, enough to pick up Mirkwood and resub. I’m enjoying exploring Moria much more this time, there’s some stunning graphical work right there. Plus I can’t wait to see skirmishes (almost level 56 now).

  4. We have been working trying to finish up the Epic quests. Carn Dum quests have been put to back burner as one will be able to get those level 45 class quest items via skirmish now.
With the new radiance adjusments and gear we have stopped doing radiance quests as well.
Yesterday spent 4 hours trying to complete Vol2 book 8 chapter 3 but as we finally made it to the end of the instance all our armor (this is a 3 man instance) were in tatters and the couple I teamed with was in the UK and it was past midnight and I had no had dinner myself.
Sunday will be a big day for our kinship and I probaly will give up football watching and hope to complete Vol1 Book 14 chapter 1 and the mentioned 2.8.3 quests.
About the only positive thing is I did get kindred with the Lothlorien elves.

  5. I’m in a funny limbo at the moment:
LOTRO has an expansion and level cap increase coming Tuesday
WoW has a gear reset patch coming possibly as soon as Tuesday
EQ2 may also have a GU on Tuesday and is about two months shy of a level cap increase

You’d figure that three games would be enough to have SOMETHING that you can be working on right now. 😉
