From all indications, the Deep Impact mission was a great success. The projectile part of the ship hit the comet and the observer part was in position to watch the fun. Check out the images at http://www.nasa.gov/mission_pages/deepimpact/main/index.html

This is absolutely amazing to me. The sheer speed and room for error in this mission should place it in the list of man’s greatest scientific accomplishments.
