Spiderman!

Finally got to see Spiderman. Work sent four of us to one of these deluxe theaters where you can have food, drinks and stuff while watching the movie in a chair that’s big enough to be comfortable. Personally, I would’ve rather had a $500 bonus but these days you take what you can get, I guess (this year we’ve been blessed with a 10% pay cut and 3 rounds of layoffs). Anyway, the theater was pretty nice. Two of the guys I went with talked through the whole thing, which was pretty irritating.

As to the movie itself, it was pretty damned fun. It didn’t quite break the barrier into the ‘love’ zone, but I certainly liked it. I’ll definitely get the DVD when it comes out and watch it a few more times. Special effects were stunning and there were some fun cameos, like Lucy Lawless in a very quick part (LL=Xena, and the director of Spiderman, Sam Raimi, was director of Xena). (OK, gotta admit, I didn’t even recognize Lucy Lawless, but noted her name in the credits.) The plot was pretty true to the Spidey comics and we got good and set up for the sequel (Oh christ, I just wrote SQL instead of sequel… what the hell is happening to me!? Har!)

So, weak-willed bastard that I am, I bought the XBox version of the Spiderman game on the way home… heh. Haven’t got very far though.

So now its almost 11 and I still haven’t really done anything tonight… taking Friday off though. Maybe I can catch up on some projects then.

Blog packages

Spent the evening doing some research on various blogging packages. Having trouble hitting the sweet spot between feature-starved and feature-bloated (for a personal site). I got Geeklog running without too much trouble, but its totally overkill for a one-man show like this. Found some very simple little tools, but many don’t include comments, which I’d like to have.
Worth noting is b2 which looks pretty sweet. It still may be too much for me though. I still might install it, just for grins.
As of now, plan is to build a link tool for TOH (the Other Half) to use on her Blogger site. After that I’ll see what I feel like doing.

In other news… well, there is no other news. Been doing this stuff all day. Hope to get back to Dungeon Siege editing and playing Morrowind tomorrow.

Ghosts

Oh, crippee! I can’t believe I forgot to mention this… I saw a ghost today. First ghost I’ve seen in a long time, actually. It was in an odd place, too. At the office, in a little alcove with a few vending machines. I was standing there trying to decide whether it’d be M&M’s or Reese’s Pieces, and it came in behind me, walked around me and behind the vending machines (which kind of stick out from the wall rather than being flat against them) and vanished.

I used to work in a place that was haunted as hell. Several of my co-workers reported wierd events, and I’d often sense someone had come up behind me (nothing unusual in that… this wasn’t an office job and folks were wandering around all the time) then glance up to deliver some idle chat and realize no one was there. And I mean, I’d be absolutely POSITIVE someone was standing behind me. I’d feel their presence…no question about it. And then look up and… no one. A friend of mine opened a door and had a dog come charging out of it, only she turned around and no dog was there. That was weird.

Are these ghosts the spirits of people (or dogs) who’ve shrugged off their mortal coil? I have no idea. Maybe there’re just caused by some low frequency sound or weird lighting… or maybe they’re something more supernatural. I will say that none of the ghosts I’ve seen have ever frightened me, nor have I actually *seen* anything, so much as I’ve felt it. It’s a mystery that I choose to leave alone. We all need some mysteries in our lives.
